I have to tell you that none really needs a storage place if you have items sitting in the place for more than 1 year, especially, if you no longer remember what you have in the storage place. That's the time to stop the contract for sure without getting everything rotten there. Maybe there are better storage places out there with better qualities, services and people. If you must "tuck it away", here are some tricks you should know.
1. Make friends with the people who work in the warehouse.
They are in general a lot nicer than the people in the office. You never know what kind of help they can give you or advise you anytime. The people in the office just want to shut you down and make more money anytime.
2. Always take out something you don't think you will need from the storage place every time you visit.
At this moment, they don't have surveillance cameras there. It really sucks that the people who work in the warehouse will be the ones throwing out the garbage for you but this is the best way slowly getting rid off stuff without bringing yourself to the final trouble.
3. Choose a garbage day to vacate your storage place.
You have a better chance to get rid off your bigger items easily.
Here is my journey of getting rid off the stuff. After I realized that the office people were not being helpful at all, I told them that I want to go to my space to see what I can take with me today. I went there and luckily got a cart when I wasn't supposed to get one. It was the garbage day and there were many unwanted things out already. I saw a truck picking up a bed. I asked if I could drop my pieces of wood there. He told me that if I am not a tenant, he is not supposed to. I begged him and offered a kiss. And I succeeded.
After I moved everything out, I went to the office. The woman who worked in the office couldn't believe it but she had no way to stop me from getting out from my contract. I wished her a good day like nothing had ever happened and left.
So, if you are still thinking about getting a storage place after reading these articles, I can only wish you best luck and hope you have a better plan than mine.
